139 Students Part of CPI’s Senior Certificate and Awards Program Ceremony

If you ask recent Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology graduate Matthew Caldana, the institute helped prepare him for the next step, which brings him right back to CPI. Caldana, of the Penns Valley Area School District, said he’ll be participating in the Natural Gas Compression program with an emphasis in CAT/Ariel equipment, starting in August that provides students with an Associate of Specialized Technology degree in just two years.

In addition, he was the first-ever recipient of the $1,000 Henry Yeagley Scholarship Award that benefits a student who has chosen to return to CPI to further his or her education. The scholarship is named in honor of longtime member of CPI’s Joint Operating Committee, Yeagley, also known as Mr. CPI. He stepped down from the position in December after 20 years.

Caldana was among 139 graduates that walked the stage the night of May 31 during the senior certificate and awards program celebration, where more than 60 awards were handed out.

“It’s given me tons of training and prepared me for what’s next,” Caldana said about his time at CPI. He was a student in instructor Cheniene Leiter’s Emergency Services program. “It pushes me to be smarter every day.”

According to statistics from CPI, 39 percent of grads are headed into the workforce; 36 percent are pursing post-secondary education; 10 percent are entering the armed forces; 10 percent plan to further their education, while working; and 4 percent are uncertain.
