Good afternoon. This message is sent on behalf of the Pandemic Team. This morning we discussed at length the exemptions put into place at BEASD and BASD regarding implementation of the mask order from the PA Secretary of Health. Related, we consulted with our solicitor, discussed the Order with the Superintendent of Record, Dr. Brian Griffith, and reviewed information from the PA Association of School Administrators and FAQs posted by the Department of Health.
Following that discussion, our position at CPI remains the same, i.e., each teacher, student, staff, or visitor working, attending, or visiting any school entity including career-technical centers wear a mask\face covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status, except as set forth in the “Exceptions to Covering Requirement.”
In review, such exemptions are very limited due to the nature of our programs at CPI. Under the Order, philosophical objections or disagreeing with wearing a mask, are not considered valid excuses. Students who come to school and refuse to wear a mask without a medical exemption signed by a licensed physician would be subject to disciplinary steps as outlined in the Student and Parent Handbook.
If a family wishes to pursue allowable medical exceptions, a written letter signed by a licensed physician specific to the student stating the medical condition must be provided to administration or the school nurse.
Again, we thank you in advance for your cooperation and help. Please let us know if you have any questions.
