Precision Machine Technology
The machining industry is changing. In order to ready our students for Industry 4.0, it is imperative that we utilize the latest technologies available. While beginning practical methods are the foundation of precision machining, our goal at CPI is to blend the old with the new, graduating students with a diverse knowledge base. Whether they go on to further their education or become an apprentice entering into the work force, the ultimate goal will be realized in a fulfilling successful career.
Instruction is provided on the safe set-up and operation of lathes, mills, grinders, drills, etc. and students learn to follow blueprints to produce parts to exact measurement specifications. Full-Sized equipment is used for all instruction.
Student’s can receive two certificates: one in Precision Machine and another in Automated Manufacturing Technology.
Because of the hands-on aspect of machining with specialized equipment, outside classroom work is kept at a minimum. On occasion there might be a programming problem or design that may be able to be finished outside the classroom, but this is the exception rather than the rule
National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS)
National Institute of Metalworking Skills is a program that offers many different certifications in various machining categories. First, the student makes a metal part that relates to the category given. This metal part will then be checked by three different machine shops. If the part is correct, an online test will be unlocked. If the student passes the test, he or she will get the certification in that area. Some of the areas include:
- Bench Work and Layout
- Manual Mill
- Manual Lathe between Centers
- Manual Lathe Chucking
- CNC Milling Programing setup & operations
- CNC Lathe Programing setup & operations
